More than 600 MIT faculty, staff, and students, undergrad and grad, attended the open dialog convened by MIT President L. Rafael Reif in the wake of recent tragedies. The three key speakers at the event—DiOnetta Jones Crayton, Ed Bertschinger, and Kester Barrow—emphasized the Institute's commitment to “stand together against injustice, intolerance, and hatred.” At the gathering, which was open to all MIT community members, attendees "submitted written suggestions," MIT reaffirmed its commitment to "a series of measures intended to further extend an atmosphere of respect and inclusiveness for all—and of greater mutual understanding among community members regardless of differences in ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation." Institute leaders also pledged to "keep holding community events on topics similar to those featured Wednesday, in order to generate frank and supportive dialogue."
